The different types of hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid, naturally present in the dermis (the layers of skin between the epidermis and the hypodermis), is a powerful anti-wrinkle and anti-aging agent.
It behaves like a sponge that absorbs water, thereby contributing to good skin hydration and giving it a smooth and youthful appearance. It can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water, which explains why sometimes its concentration is not extremely high, but it can remain effective.
It is present in various cosmetics and fillers, and we could differentiate them into several categories:
- Hyaluronic acid creams:
They are especially useful for deeply hydrating dry skin or for preserving the effectiveness of a serum.
A cream with hyaluronic acid can be applied to the face or body. For example, we can recommend the excellent moisturizing balm Cerave.
They mainly help to avoid feelings of tightness and to regain skin comfort.
- Skin serums with hyaluronic acid:
Depending on their concentration, they can be more or less effective. They are applied before the cream to nourish the skin deeply and keep it supple and smooth.
They are recommended for mature skin to prevent wrinkles.
Be careful to choose well concentrated for better efficiency.

- Microneedling serums
Serums and creams have an undeniable moisturizing effect but do not penetrate the dermis layer, therefore they cannot reach the extreme depths of the skin.
A solution for deeper hydration may be to use a microneedling serum. There are many available with various active ingredients, some of which contain hyaluronic acid, such as the one from MCCM here.
- Skin Boosters
These are non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid injections that target the deep dermis. Their density and viscosity are significantly lower than those of filling hyaluronic acid injections, which does not result in an increase in volume.
The skin booster that we can only recommend is the Profhilo, the most appreciated by our kind clientele. It has a tightening effect, restores radiance to the skin, and prevents the appearance of fine lines.

- Reticulated fillers:
The reticulated hyaluronic acid injections, which have a higher density and viscosity, will be the ones used to fill wrinkles, add volume...
Depending on the injection area and the filling needs, there are different cross-linking options, and therefore the fillers will not be the same.
Indeed, the restoration of facial volumes will require a high concentration/cross-linking/density like that of Stylage XXL, whereas an area like the lips will require less; the concentration/cross-linking/density of Hyamira Forte will be sufficient.
These 3 concepts: concentration, crosslinking, and density are not all communicated by laboratories for obvious reasons of patent and research and development.
These treatments can be complementary; their effectiveness depends on several factors such as the condition and maturity of the skin, the regularity of application, and the choice of the right product according to the skin!
